The Importance of a Healthy and Comfortable Physical Environment
Health is a condition of mental, physical and social well being where infirmity and illness are absent. In the modern world, the word has various meanings depending on the circumstances. Today, it is used to refer to the condition of health that encompasses all the three aspects of the human condition – mind, body and spirit. A number of cultural definitions have also been used over the years.
According to most dictionaries, mental health means the ability to live well-being or satisfactory life as perceived by oneself, one’s family and friends. On the other hand, a person with poor health has a poor well-being and this is seen when he lacks the capacity to enjoy and be contented with his life. Mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, delusional disorder, post traumatic stress disorder etc. have been defined as mental illnesses that impair one’s well-being. Similarly, a person who does not enjoy a sound and healthy physical health is said to be unhealthy, while an individual who suffers from mental illness or suffering from psychological trauma is said to be suffering from health problems and disorders.
Another widely accepted definition of good health is the absence of sickness or disease. This can only be achieved when there is no physical intrusion to the body. A healthy person is physically strong, free from infirmity, clean, odorless and free from emotional trauma. A healthy person is happy and productive; he experiences no mental illness and mental pain and suffers no physical discomfort. It is essential to have a healthy and comfortable physical environment to enable a person to live a good and productive life.
