The Concept of Health
The concept of health has multiple layers, and the definition of health may differ in different places. In a society where the only thing that matters is the physical condition, what is considered healthy for one person may not necessarily be good for another. The concept of health emphasizes both social and personal resources, as well as mental and physical capacities. In terms of physical health, the concept includes maintaining homeostasis and recovering from adverse events. In terms of mental and emotional wellbeing, it means being able to deal with stress and acquire new skills. In short, good health should be an extension of the definition of physical well-being.
The concept of health can be defined in many ways. One way is to look at the concept in terms of social, economic, political, and environmental contexts. A high health value will encourage people to engage in healthy activities and avoid unhealthy situations. Some aspects of health are primarily individual choices, while others are structural. No matter how you define your health, your efforts will benefit the entire community. If your health is at risk, it is likely that you’ll feel ill sooner or later.
As a matter of fact, there are many definitions of health. Originally, the WHO defined health as the absence of disease. Today, we can see that health encompasses the physical, psychological, and social components of disease. For example, the World Health Organization defines health as complete well-being. While this definition may seem ambitious, it is a reasonable one. Regardless, we need to find out what makes us healthy and then start making changes to improve it.
