Eating Fresh Fruit and Vegetables at Home
In botany, a fruit tree is a dead-named structure in trees that’s formed by the female ovary just before flowering. Fruits and vegetables are a portion of the human diet. Approximately eighty percent of the worlds food supply is composed of fruits and vegetables. In developing countries, fruit and vegetable diets are some of the most popular dietary options. In the United States alone, approximately forty percent of the total caloric intake is provided by fruits and vegetables. Vegetables such as beans, lettuce, asparagus and broccoli are the most common vegetables in the United States and these foods are eaten on a daily basis by millions of Americans.
Fruits have been studied for years. For example, Sir Charles Darwin was interested in understanding the effect that various types of fruits had on the body’s ability to produce disease-causing organisms, he sent several species of a species of particular fruit back to England for further study. The results of his study showed that the fruits Darwin sent back to England were much more nutritious than the wild fruits he had seen previously. His experiments with wild fruits proved that many of the diseases that were deadly to these organisms were not even present in the indoor varieties of these same plants. Because of this, he concluded that the differences between botanically grown and cultivated fruits were primarily caused by differences in the way humans grow the fruits.
Modern research has revealed that the reason fruits contain higher amounts of antioxidants compared to vegetables is because they are able to resist damage caused by bacteria, fungi and other pathogens. Plants that are eaten regularly have a lot of foreign organisms and the bacteria, fungi and other pathogens are able to survive and multiply. Over time, these factors lead to a build up of toxins within the plant, which can cause it to deteriorate and eventually die. However, fruits and vegetables have the ability to protect themselves from harmful elements by having a high content of anti-toxins and living enzymes.
Some fruits have higher antioxidant levels than others; this means that fruits contain more nutrients than vegetables. When choosing which types of fruit to include in a healthy diet, it’s important to choose ones that are rich in vitamin C, beta carotene and other nutrients that will help to protect the body from potential harm. Some fruits, such as cranberries and oranges, are very high in vitamin C, which makes it a great addition to your daily fruit and vegetable intake. Other fruits, such as pears and grapes, are rich in beta carotene, which makes them an even better choice for daily consumption.
The good news is that many fruits are very versatile and can be eaten on their own or added to recipes in order to make them tastier. The most popular way to eat most fruits is by picking them, pressing them slightly to crush them and consuming them raw or cooked. However, there are some vegetable options that are easier to incorporate into a diet; a nice selection of green and leafy vegetables is always welcome. Among the most common vegetable options is the tomato. Although a bit more expensive than other fruits, the tomato can be used in a variety of different recipes and is widely accepted as a food all by itself.
