The Different Types of Fruit

A fruit is the reproductive structure of a seed plant. A variety is classified as a fruit if its fleshy, edible pulp is edible. A tomato, for example, bears seeds instead of a fleshy, sweet pulp, but the latter is also an edible substance. A tomato is classified as a fruit because it produces a fruit that resembles an apple.
